Pretzel Bites

Dec 27, 2023 | Uncategorized

These are so delicious and can be made either savory or sweet! We love soft pretzels and making them into bite sized pieces is even more fun. We actually made these on a Carnival Cruise Ship in a cooking class and they said I could share this recipe with you all.

Watch me make these here!

Pretzel Bites

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg whisked
  • 1 Tbsp coarse sea salt

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl, pour the warm milk, top with the honey and the yeast, stir to combine and allow to sit for about 10 minutes.
  • Add the flour and salt; knead in the electric mixer with the bread hook (or by hand) for about 5 minutes until the dough comes together and is not sticky on your hands.
  • Place dough on counter top and form it into a ball. Section the ball into 4 parts and roll each part into long strands. Cut each strand into 1 1⁄2 inch pieces using kitchen scissors or a small knife.
  • In a medium pot, fill it up about 3⁄4 of the pan with water, add the baking soda and bring to a boil.
  • Once water is boiling, place about 8 pieces of dough into the water for about 30 seconds. Remove from the water with the help of a slotted spoon and place pretzel bites onto a baking tray with parchment paper; repeat this process with the rest of the dough. Allow to cool.
  • Brush the pieces of dough with the egg and sprinkle with salt on top.
  • Bake at 425F for about 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
  • NOTE: For a sweeter version, bake the homemade pretzels without salt. When they come out of the oven, roll them in melted butter and then roll the tops and sides in cinnamon sugar (1/2 cup granulated sugar combined with 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon. Serve warm.
